Taplas – Curious Things Given Wings

Hailing from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton and Vancouver, the five members of The Outside Track play Canadian, Scottish and Irish music and song with virtuosity and energy. The instrumental sets are guitar driven with accordion, fiddle and harp. They are obviously having a ball, and you can almost see them smiling as they reach the final chords. Particulary delightful is Ailie Robertson’s harp. Her playing lighten’s the whole mix, and there is a great version of her Swerving for Bunnies from her debut album First Things First.

A good selection of songs is included, and the absolutely gorgeous final track, Farewell Song, with fiddle and harp leading the accompaniment, is one of those songs that you have to sway and sing along to.
